Jim Suva Citi
The buy side says: “He always gives me fresh insights.”
Debuting in first place in this new sector is San Francisco–based Jim Suva, who dominated Electronics Manufacturing Services in 2007 and 2008, the final year in which that sector was published. The Citi analyst is “ever friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable,” reports one faithful client. Suva, 40, first told money managers to buy Switzerland’s TE Connectivity (formerly Tyco Electronics) back in June 2009, and he has reiterated his stance repeatedly since, impressed by the telecommunications component manufacturer’s robust margins and strong cash flow, among other factors. In the 12 months through August 2011, the stock bounded 28.2 percent, from $23.88 to $30.62, and outperformed the sector by 17.9 percentage points. Suva, who covered these companies for Goldman, Sachs & Co., moved to Citi in 2002 after earning an MBA at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
