Third-teamer Venkatesh Balasubramaniam is applauded for “aggressive stock calls.” One example: In November the Citi researcher, who also ranks third in Capital Goods, upgraded Power Grid Corp. of India from hold to buy, at 97.83 rupees, partly on the government-regulated electric utility’s new power plants. Shares of the Gurgaon-based outfit surged 8.8 percent, to Rs106.40, in early May before starting to slip; they ended the month at Rs101.05, for a gain of 3.3 percent that bested the sector by 24.7 percentage points.
