BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research’s Takashi Enomoto debuts at third place. His October 2010 analysis of the steel industry stands out for its “value-added details,” recalls one reader, especially an upgrade of Kobe Steel from neutral to buy, at ¥182. Enomoto argued the diversified steel products supplier would benefit from a construction surge in China, and he was right. Through February’s end the stock jumped 22.5 percent, to ¥223, beating the sector by 12 percentage points.
Polling and tabulation of data as well as reporting on the sector profiles were completed before the March 11 Tohoku earthquake.
