Debbie Bobovnikova, who moved to ING Investment Management in July, guided the J.P. Morgan duo to the No. 1 spot for the past two years; this year the team finishes third. Way back in December 2009 the New York–based crew upgraded sugarcane miller São Martinho from neutral to overweight, at 16.75 reais, partly on rising sugar prices and partly on the Pradópolis, Brazil–based company’s improving cash position. By the end of July 2011, the stock had sweetened by 33 percent, to R22.27, and outpaced the sector by 27.2 percentage points. “Debbie’s breadth of knowledge sets her apart,” declares one buy-side advocate.
