Team debut: 2013Carlos Kirjner-Neto debuted on this lineup last year in second place and returns in the same spot. “The level of insight, detail and depth of his research is unparalleled,” attests one fund manager. Another client dubs Kirjner “the most detail-oriented Internet analyst in the business.” Covering seven U.S. Internet companies, the Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. researcher sees a bright future for select names in the broader group. “There is very little question in my mind that the Internet and the web will continue to have a massive impact on many industries and businesses, with massive value shifts,” says Kirjner. “Leading Internet companies whose businesses have long-term competitive advantages such as returns-to-scale, learning-by-doing or network effects will capture much of this value.” Kirjner favorites include industry giants Google of Mountain View, California, and Seattle’s Amazon.com. The market misunderstands and underestimates the value of these businesses, he contends. Google’s stock was trading in mid-September at $573.10, and the analysts believes that a price of $700 is justified. He pegs Amazon at $360, which implies an 11.1 percent upside to its shares level in mid-September.
