| Bonnie Herzog | | Wells Fargo Securities | | First-place appearances: 0 Total appearances: 9 Analyst debut: 2001 | Stepping up to third place from runner-up is Bonnie Herzog of Wells Fargo Securities. “Bonnie is very insightful and looks at the macro factors driving tobacco consumption and market shares around the world,” champions one backer. Herzog says that, over the past year and a half, she has been producing a lot of research about e-cigarettes and their long-term potential. She believes they will “revolutionize the tobacco industry.” Her favorite name is Greensboro, North Carolina–based Lorillard, manufacturer of Kent, Newport and other cigarette brands. This is in part because the company earned first-mover advantage in the U.S. e-cigarette industry when it bought Charlotte, North Carolina’s Blu Ecigs in April 2012. Herzog upgraded Lorillard from neutral to buy last October, at $35.99, and by late August its shares had advanced 17.5 percent, to $42.30, bucking the sector’s 3.5 percent decline. — Katie Gilbert |
