Newcomer Alberto Gallo guides Royal Bank of Scotland’s team of seven to second place; the crew also finishes third in High-Yield Strategy. “Alberto’s approach is unique in its integration,” says one German fund manager. In August the strategists, who work out of London, argued that Fiat stood to gain from its penetration into emerging markets and advised clients to go long on the Italian automaker’s euro-denominated five-year credit default swaps. Fiat subsequently enjoyed a sales surge, particularly into Brazil, and by mid-January the swaps had tightened from 841.8 basis points to 601 basis points. — Ben Mattlin
