| Craig Moffett, 45, takes top honors for a second straight year. “While other analysts are playing tic-tac-toe, Craig is playing 3-D chess,” is how one money manager describes the Sanford C. Bernstein analyst’s research. Moffett has been an outspoken proponent of Comcast Corp., first recommended in January 2006 and highlighted repeatedly since, reasoning that the Philadelphia-based cable TV service provider is undervalued. The stock has risen 43.9 percent since Moffett’s initial recommendation; during the same period the broad market advanced 17.0 percent. Vaulting from runner-up to second, Vijay Jayant of Lehman Brothers has a “great eye for individual stock picks,” says one investor. Case in point: longtime favorite Liberty Global. Jayant first recommended the Englewood, Colorado–based broadband services provider in March 2005, citing its growth prospects, which he continues to champion. The stock was up 41.2 percent in 2007 through mid-September. Spencer Wang, previously unranked in this sector, finishes third. The Bear Stearns analyst, who is second in Entertainment, has a “good command of the numbers and drivers,” according to one money manager. Another fan of Comcast, Wang recommended the stock in June 2006; it gained 15.9 percent by mid-September 2007. | |
