The Nasdaq is hoping to heat up competition with the New York Stock Exchange by introducing new listing standards that will help the upstart exchange woo top companies from the NYSE. Without disclosing specifics of the Nasdaq Global Select Market, set for a July 1 launch, the Nasdaq says the new standards are "above that of any other market globally," which, according to its president and chief executive Bob Greifeld, make it more attractive to major corporations. Associated Press reports that Global Select will start life with more than 1,000 qualifying companies current listed in the Nasdaq.
