THIRD TEAM

Jochen Gehrke, Gaëtan Toulemonde & team Deutsche Bank

In third place is the Deutsche Bank trio under the direction of newcomer Jochen Gehrke, who works out of Frankfurt, and Paris-based Gaëtan Toulemonde, who was the squad’s sole leader in its most recent appearance in the ranking, as a runner-up in 2008. Winning picks of the past year include a July upgrade from hold to buy on Germany’s Volkswagen, at €72.46, on the belief that the company’s restructuring efforts would boost its bottom line. Good call: By the end of December, the stock had cruised 46.1 percent, to €105.90. “I appreciate their freedom of spirit,” says one impressed investor, “despite their important proximity to the management.”
