SECOND TEAM
Lucas Herrmann & team Deutsche Bank
Last year’s third-ranked team in Oil & Gas, the Deutsche Bank quartet directed by Lucas Herrmann, claims the No. 2 spot. Clients applaud an October 2009 reiteration of their buy call with a target-price increase on Cairn Energy, then at a split-adjusted 276.20p, as the U.K.-headquartered petroleum producer was about to begin drilling in Greenland. The analysts had been recommending the stock since November 2006, dubbing the shares a bargain at 290.54p, and last year the guidance really paid off. By late December 2010 the stock had jumped 52.1 percent, to 420p, since the reiteration. “They were bold in sticking with it, and they were right,” proclaims one buy-side beneficiary.
