Ehud Gelblum  Morgan Stanley

The buy side says: “Ehud has the best, most-detailed financial models in the industry.”

It’s five straight years in first place for All-America Research Team Hall of Famer Ehud Gelblum; the Morgan Stanley analyst also finishes second in Data Networking & Wireline Equipment. Gelblum, 42, is “great at taking seemingly mundane facts, tidbits and data and turning them into analysis that is interesting to investors,” says one loyalist. “Furthermore, he has shown repeatedly that he is not afraid to challenge company management teams.” Since January 2010 the analyst has been urging investors to overweight Qualcomm, making the case that the San Diego–based developer of integrated circuits and software for wireless devices would benefit from the growing demand for Android-based smartphones. In November the company reported that year-over-year net income had vaulted 104 percent, to nearly $3.3 billion, for the fiscal year through September 2010. The stock climbed 36.5 percent, from $37.71 to $51.46, and beat the sector by 30.1 percentage points, in the 12 months through August 2011. “Ehud has a knack for seeing the big picture and thinking not just in terms of who is going to have a great quarter, but who is building a business that will endure,” observes one fan.
