THIRD TEAM Thomas Gallagher Credit Suisse
Thomas Gallagher of Credit Suisse lands in third place for a second straight year. “Tom’s understanding of every single little detail makes him indispensable,” cheers one supporter. In July 2010 he downgraded Lincoln National Corp. from outperform to neutral, at $25.35, partly on its exposure to low interest rates and risky balance sheet assets. By the end of August 2011, shares of the Radnor, Pennsylvania–based insurer had fallen 18.1 percent, to $20.75, and trailed the sector by 6.1 percentage points. “I can’t say enough good things about Tom,” says another investor, who laments: “I only wish every analyst were like him.”
