Sanjay Mookim Credit Suisse The buy side says: “Sanjay is very responsive and is a very good analyst.”

Claiming the top spot is Sanjay Mookim, 33. Clients credit the Credit Suisse analyst for his recent cautiousness, especially his July 2010 downgrade of Hindustan Petroleum Corp. from neutral to underperform, at 421.04 rupees, largely on petroleum price hikes that he feared would slow consumer spending and defeat government attempts to control inflation. That was premature, as shares of the Mumbai-based oil refiner surged to Rs545.90 two months later before starting to slide; by the end of May, they had tumbled 9.6 percent, to Rs380.50, and trailed the sector by 3.4 percentage points. Says one client: “Sanjay saved us a lot of money.” Mookim, who earned an MBA at the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad in 2003, worked in the corporate finance department of oil and gas conglomerate Reliance Industries before joining Credit Suisse in 2007.
