The Federal Reserve will publish stringent rules for financial firms that pose a risk to the economy, The Wall Street Journal reports. The proposed rules will include enhanced standards on capital, leverage requirements and annual Fed stress tests.

The proposed rules have an implementation deadline of January 2012. The Fed expects to put out a package of proposed rules for comment this summer, according to Fed Chairman, Ben Bernanke, adds Bloomberg.
