SECOND TEAM

Alonso Aramburú & team  BTG Pactual

Alonso Aramburú, who works out of New York, guides the BTG Pactual threesome to second place for a second straight year. The team wins plaudits for “very good local knowledge, including its amazing coverage of the Peruvian elections, in May and June,” reports one pleased investor. “The markets were completely driven by the election, and they provided a good interpretation of the facts.” The analysts also impress money managers with timely recommendations such as a January downgrade on Intergroup Financial Services Corp. from buy to neutral, at $33.93, primarily on valuation. Shares of the holding company, which is headquartered in Panama City, Panama, but whose subsidiaries operate out of Lima, Peru, had tumbled to $23.10 by late June before starting to recover, ending July at $26.77 — for a life-of-call loss of 21.1 percent. During the same period Peru’s broad market fell by 20.6 percent.
