Ralph Janvey, the court-appointed receiver of R Stanford, has filed a suit against the Libyan government wealth fund, Bloomberg reports. The lawsuit claims that the state withdrew $55 million from Stanford’s alleged Ponzi scheme before it collapsed in 2009. Janvey has also acquired a temporary freeze on some Libyan government bank accounts in the U.S. until a federal judge can determine whether the money should be distributed to investors allegedly cheated of over $7 billion. Stanford has been charged with deceiving investors about the safety and oversight of certificates of deposit sold by his Stanford International Bank.
