THIRD TEAM Robert Wertheimer  Morgan Stanley

Newcomer Robert Wertheimer captures third place for Morgan Stanley. “Rob has had a lot of good stock picks that have made us money,” cheers one advocate. One example: Wertheimer upgraded Caterpillar from underweight to overweight in February 2010, at $50.78, partly on its underappreciated exposure to oil and gas markets. By early June, when Wertheimer discontinued coverage in anticipation of his departure from the firm, shares of the Peoria, Illinois–based construction and mining gear maker had catapulted 99.4 percent, to $101.24, and shot past the sector by 36.5 percentage points. Wertheimer moved to Vertical Research Partners in August.
