Hellenic Postbank is planning to redeem €225 million of preferred shares from the government, Reuters reports. The share buyback will enable the Greek lender to resume dividend payments. The shares were issued under a €28 billion liquidity support scheme by the government in 2008. The Greek banking support scheme provided up to €15 billion for bank debt guarantees, €8 billion in special government bonds and €5 billion in capital injections.
