David Raso  ISI Group The buy side says: “Raso surpasses all other analysts.”

David Raso, a member of the All-America Research Team Hall of Fame, extends his winning streak to 11 consecutive years atop the roster. The ISI Group analyst “does not rely on company information but does his own incredibly deep channel checks, traveling all over the world to talk to dealers and distributors,” marvels one buy-side enthusiast. “No one else comes close.” Raso, 41, upgraded Timken Co. from hold to buy in July 2010, at $29.94, on its strong sales growth and improvements in operating margins. In January the company reported that year-over-year sales had jumped 29.1 percent, to $4.1 billion, and income from continuing operations had skyrocketed 535.5 percent, to $267.4 million, in 2010. Shares of the Canton, Ohio–based maker of antifriction bearings were trading as high as $52.23 in early July 2011 but had receded to $39.35 by the end of August, for a total gain of 31.4 percent that outperformed the sector by 14.9 percentage points. Raso is “unmatched in the depth of work he does,” declares one supporter. Adds another: “He sends timely voice mails on his findings, as well as written follow-up — he does great in-depth work that others do not.”
