The BTG Pactual pair led by São Paulo–based João Carlos dos Santos takes second place in the sector, which returns to the survey after a two-year absence. In June 2010, one month after joining the firm, Santos initiated coverage on Diagnósticos da América with a buy rating, at 15.27 reais, calling the shares a bargain in light of the Barueri, Brazil–based outfit’s recent corporate restructuring and earnings growth. The preventative medicine and laboratory testing provider’s stock took off, advancing 26.1 percent, to R19.25, through July. “As one of the few dedicated Latin American health care analysts, J.C. is extremely knowledgeable and helpful,” attests one supporter.
