Yanming (Kris) Huang steers the UBS team from runner-up to third place. The Beijing- and Shanghai-based squad is in expansion mode, having added 16 analysts over the past year, for a total of 76, and increased coverage by 161 companies, for a universe of 426. The team stands out for its “wide coverage, good company access and strong research,” in the words of one portfolio manager. However, critics charge that the researchers can be “insufficiently responsive — that is, tough to get hold of on the phone,” according to one investor. Huang stepped down as leader in April for another position within UBS and was replaced by Yankun Hou, who leads this year’s No. 1 team in Autos & Auto Parts. — ­Ben Mattlin
