Teddy Oetomo & team Credit Suisse

Newcomer Teddy Oetomo shepherds the eight-person Credit Suisse crew from runner-up to third place. The newly expanded team — it had five members a year ago — reports on 35 companies and receives praise from one buy-side enthusiast for its “proprietary contacts and channel checks.” In September the analysts advised clients that Gudang Garam, then at 55,900 rupiahs, was approaching its peak valuation, a figure based in part on the team’s proprietary survey of international investors. Sure enough, shares of the Kediri-based cigarette maker — which had already grown 42.1 percent in 2011 — began to seesaw, briefly touching a new high in early December before slipping to end March down 1.5 percent, to Rp55,900. During the same period Indonesia’s broad market gained 8.5 percent. — Ben Mattlin
