Karen Tang & team Deutsche Bank
The buy side says: “Tang has the best network of contacts in the region.”
It’s four years in first place for the four-member Deutsche Bank team directed by Karen Tang. “I like her candor and her understanding of Macau’s underbelly,” explains one money manager. Tang works out of Hong Kong with assistance from analysts in Kuala Lumpur and Sydney. The team covers 20 stocks and is bullish on gamers. “We think Macau’s gaming market size will expand by 25 percent, to $42 billion, in 2012, helped by the opening of the Sands Cotai Central casino in April as well as the improving infrastructure — including high-speed rail in China — and the high-end discretionary spending growth among China’s middle class,” explains Tang, 34. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Cambridge, then joined Goldman Sachs (Asia) as a junior analyst covering the Hong Kong property sector until 2003, when she moved to Deutsche. — Leslie Kramer
