Viju George, Di (Dick) Wei & team J.P. Morgan

The buy side says: “The team excels at assessing companies.”

J.P. Morgan, unranked last year, rockets to first place. Its foursome is captained by newcomers Viju George, who works out of Mumbai, and Hong Kong–based Di (Dick) Wei. Clients hail the analysts for their “detailed views of companies’ drivers” and “command of industry knowledge.” The team is upbeat for 2012. In India the researchers are looking for “quality midcaps where we think we might have a sustainable growth proposition,” George explains, while in China the focus is on the “companies investing to expand into new industries,” Wei says. George, 35, earned an MBA at the Indian Institute of Management in Chennai; he joined J.P. Morgan in 2010 from Mumbai-based Edelweiss Capital. Wei, 40, earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and worked in corporate finance at Merrill Lynch before joining the firm in 2002.  —  Pam Baker
