Advancing from runner-up to claim the No. 3 position on this list are James Anstead, 39, and his London-based Barclays duo, who last year tumbled all the way from first place. The analysts upgraded Spanish discount supermarket chain Distribuidora Internacional de Alimentación in late October, arguing that the stock had been sold off too aggressively amid widely held concerns about the company’s like-for-like sales. Anstead and team held that quarterly sales trends would improve and boosted their rating on the stock from equal weight to overweight. Sure enough, the stock is back in favor, having gained 22.3 percent since their call, to close January at €5.75. During the same period, the regional sector jumped 24.3 percent and Europe’s wider market climbed 8.8 percent.
