Team debut: 2012Seizing third place on this new lineup is Roderick Hall. Last year the J.P. Morgan researcher earned runner-up spots in both Data Networking & Wireline Equipment and Telecom Equipment/Wireless; coverage of those sectors is now combined into Telecom & Networking Equipment. Hall, who is stationed in San Francisco and reports on 22 names, forecasts that through the end of this year, makers of optical systems are the only companies in the telecommunciations networking space that won’t languish. “Enterprise networking trends are also mixed, with U.S. spending improving while emerging markets and even some developed global economies are showing signs of weakness,” he adds. “In wireless we expect Apple to gain further share from Android, driven by tighter desktop [operating system] integration with iOS as well as expected larger screen sizes for the new iPhone.” Finally, he forecasts that the Cupertino, California–based consumer electronics giant will “move the iPad further toward fully converged laptop and tablet functionality to expand share in the sub-$1,000 laptop market.”
