Antonio González, Tobias Stingelin & team Credit Suisse First-place appearances: 3

Total appearances: 15

Team debut: 1995 After two years at runner-up, Credit Suisse advances to third place, marking its best showing since 2008. Antonio González now shares leadership with newcomer Tobias Stingelin; former co-captain Gustavo Wigman joined Brazilian asset manager Tarpon Investimentos in August 2013. One portfolio manager lauds the analysts for “having a clear picture of the consumer environment, particularly in Mexico.” They have a positive outlook on that nation over the next five to ten years, as Singelin readily explains. “We think Mexico might be at the brink of experiencing a consumer boom similar to what we saw in Brazil over the last decade,” he says. “We think the best performing stocks for the next few years are ‘up-trading’ stories. If our thesis about social mobility is right, then you will see a lot of formerly low-income households buying their first refrigerators, their first flat screens, migrating from quick-service restaurants to casual dining restaurants, etcetera.” Stationed in Brazil and Mexico, the five researchers track 12 regional food and beverages shares and monitor additional names in the consumer goods and retail spaces, for a total of 34 companies under coverage. González and Stingelin also shepherd a group that claims a runner-up position in Retailing. They “bring many interesting and divergent opinions and facts to the buy side for consideration” and “organize many interesting and helpful events,” another backer asserts.
