Sanjay Mookim guides his Credit Suisse crew from runner-up to third place, a position on this list the firm most recently held in 2009. The seven analysts work out of Singapore — with assistance from eight industry researchers spread across Hong Kong, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur — and report on 64 Singaporean names. Investors applaud both the content of their coverage and the quality of their service. “They know their companies well,” avers one fan, “and always care for their clients by giving us what we need and being responsive to our concerns.” Mookim and his squad have been urging investors to buy financial services provider DBS Group Holdings since upgrading it to outperform from neutral in November. At the time, they advised that DBS management was exercising cost discipline and that loan growth was broadly based. By late April the shares had inched up to S$16.80, while Singapore’s broad market was flat. The researchers believe that earnings momentum will drive the stock’s outperformance going forward and project that its price will rise as high as S$19.
