Analyst debut: 2013

Taro Ishihara of Daiwa Securities Group holds steady in third place, where he debuted last year. The analyst’s portfolio spans 23 names, and despite the sales tax’s increase this month from 5 percent to 8 percent, his stance is bullish. “Investors are afraid that the broadcasting sector will suffer from the impact of the hike,” Ishihara acknowledges, “but I think the impact should be limited. Current spot sales are improving, so now is the time to invest in this sector.” Nippon Television Holdings remains at the top of this researcher’s list of favorites. He believes that the Tokyo-based commercial television broadcaster, whose business interests extend to digital satellite and other entertainment operations, will effectively raise prices this year. Ishihara’s target price for Nippon TV’s stock is ¥2,200, which represents a 34.4 percent premium to its mid-March value.
