Team debut: 2000For a second consecutive year, Barclays researcher Benjamin Reitzes earns third-place honors on this lineup, winning praise for the depth and breadth of his coverage. “He’s a great single-stock analyst,” one portfolio manager offers, “but we also find him to be a great resource for his personal computer and printer industry models and industry-level insights.” Reitzes maintains a neutral stance on the sector, advising that “while we remain concerned with headwinds caused by cloud and more software-defined solutions, we are optimistic regarding stabilization in the PC and server markets — and how certain companies with attractive multiples can benefit into 2015.” Among the 21 information technology hardware names under his purview, CDW Corp. of Vernon Hills, Illinois, is a favorite. Reitzes upgraded the shares from equal weight to overweight in November, in part because he believed that corporate PC sales in the U.S. would stabilize over the following few quarters and that CDW, as a reseller, had a better chance to drive value in that environment. Sure enough, by mid-September the stock had soared 39.6 percent, to $30.82, besting its peers by 5.3 percentage points — and investors cheered. “His recommendation on CDW as a quality midcap growth story despite skepticism made his clients a lot of money in a tough market where performance was driven by a narrow cohort,” one supporter attests.
