Unranked last year, UBS’s Tao Wang returns to the roster in third place, the same position she earned in 2012. “In a zoo of hawks, doves, bulls and bears, I appreciate Tao’s straightforward and steady approach,” marvels one fund manager in London. “Unlike some of her competitors, she rarely gets lost in the weeds.” Wang, who works out of Hong Kong, foresees a mixed future. “Since we expect growth and inflation both to decelerate further in 2015, we expect interest rates to come down,” she advises. “In addition, weakness in property should continue to depress commodities prices. Therefore, we could see some margin expansion in the manufacturing sector. I would be more constructive on services such as health care and the insurance sector.” At least one client is sure to listen: “Ignore her views at your own peril,” says this Hong Kong–based investor.
