Repeating in second place is the four-member Morgan Stanley squad under Cesar Medina, who has led coverage since 2011. “Corporate access is his specialty,” observes one money manager. “Trips to the region with him are very efficient — he packs a lot into a single day.” The analysts are bullish on the Toronto-listed shares of Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp., an oil and gas exploration and production outfit headquartered in Bogotá, Colombia. “The stock offers an estimated 25 percent earnings per share between 2013 and 2015,” the New York–based crew captain believes. Concerns about possible production delays and depressed global oil prices have left the shares attractively valued — they were trading at C$20.07 in mid-July — and enhanced oil-recovery techniques and the company’s efforts to diversify its reserve base should boost profitability, he explains. The team has a target price of C$30. — Paul Sweeney
