Hall of Famer Andrew Steinerman, 45, tops the roster for a ninth year running. The J.P. Morgan researcher “has a clear understanding of complex industry dynamics and long-standing relationships with industry experts,” says one fund manager. A January reiteration of his overweight rating on ManpowerGroup, at $51.36, wins particular praise. Upgraded from neutral in January 2010, as a bargain at $47.51, the Milwaukee-based workforce resource giant had a “new, transformational strategy to recalibrate costs and lower [its] operating leverage,” Steinerman explains. The stock skyrocketed 80.7 percent in the 12 months through August, regaining ground lost in a 2011 sell-off and outdistancing the sector by an impressive 62.3 percentage points. From the January reiteration through August, it rose 26.3 percent, to $67.20, while the sector was up just 6.1 percent. “He stuck with it, and he was right,” cheers another booster. Looking ahead, Steinerman, who tracks 27 companies, gives the nod to Atlanta-based transaction-processing provider Equifax, favoring its “solid revenue growth through new-product introductions and new vertical penetration,” he says. — Ben Mattlin
