Returning to third place after a year in the runner-up position is J.P. Morgan’s three-member crew under Andrea Teixeira, who also heads the No. 3 team in Retailing. The New York–based leader “doesn’t give in to short-term blips,” observes one money manager. One example: The analysts launched coverage on Brazilian health insurance provider Amil Participaçóes back in November 2008 with an overweight rating, at 9.29 reais, primarily on valuation. In August 2012 they made Amil a top pick, at 19.77 reais, despite its poor quarterly profits, insisting that rising plan membership would buoy the stock. In October, U.S. health insurance giant UnitedHealth Group announced an acquisition bid. The stock had catapulted to 31.64 reais by its last trading day, in April, for a stunning 240.6 percent advance that bested the broad market by 182.1 percentage points. — Ben Mattlin
